Uses no fluid but consists of a capsule which has very little air inside. The size of this capsule varies with outside air pressure, and this is linked to a rotating measuring needle.

A mercury barometer has a glass tube filled with mercury. Changes in pressure cause the mercury in the tube to rise or fall. Barometers in this section may be delivered by arrangment. Due to the E U ban on the placing on the market of new mercury barometers we will not be permitted to market new ones after Oct 2009. We do have some 2nd hand barometers that canstill be sold while stocks last. A barograph records a graph of pressure over a period of time. It is a type made up of an aneroid barometer which uses a pen for a measuring needle and records the presure on a scale which is wrapped around a cylinder that is rotated by clockwork.
